Storytime.

In 2005, my mom died from cancer, but the real cause was the actions taken by an insurance company 12 years earlier. What happened to her was evil, hard to identify or fight, and hidden from the public by legal mechanisms. Because of that, I have no idea how often it has happened.

Tonight I paid for a soda with a credit card that I spent several seconds searching for inside a package of salami

Got home, poured myself the soda, thought about what a silly brain moment that had been! Maybe a minute or so later, I suddenly realized I was drinking the soda out of a cereal bowl

I like it because it is fun, it is recognizably Star Trek, and it is not built entirely on the most preposterous violation of the laws of physics I may have ever seen depicted (Discovery).

But oh yes it would be wonderful if that aspect were true for everyone. Nobody should experience anything else

I just met a man whose dog was diagnosed with lymphoma, so he has taken a leave of absence from work, bought a Sprinter van, and is going to just road trip with his dog to various nature destinations around the country for as long as his dog lives, and I am just floored by how beautiful this is

So I read the Daily Beast one (shocked by the story), then the USA Today one at your suggestion (shocked by the difference in reporting), and then I read the German one both of these pieces cite and it's much closer to Daily Beast's.

Truly frustrating to need to worry about this, too
