Taken seriously enough for the requested edict to be issued, at least.

If a censor was demoted four ranks but left in post, does that mean his reports would/should be taken more or less seriously?

British colonial officials destroyed countless files before decolonisation. But one colony has been neglected by the literature: Hong Kong. My latest paper in @jich.bsky.social examines the past, present and future of Hong Kong colonial government migrated archives: doi.org/10.1080/0308...

Given their strong inclination to bolster (certain kinds of) executive power, calling the Court’s majority “conservative” seems imprecise. Maybe better to call them Tories.

I was just thinking to myself: I love those throwback creamsicle kits. But man, the Bucs got good *right* when they changed.

Guys like this are almost always crooks in addition to be degenerates and abusers. Yet another reason for the opposition to remind everyone. No one stays in power forever. The time will come.

Tom Homan, who was later named President Trump’s border chief, was recorded in September 2024 accepting a bag with $50,000 in cash in an undercover FBI investigation, according to people familiar with the case, which was later closed by Trump administration officials.

So, I don't think the guidelines are especially helpful for dealing with the basic pedagogical problem that integrating AI means doing more at a time when we find students (and maybe ourselves) struggling to keep up with what has been and is still—more than ever—necessary. 11/11
dknorr.bsky.social
If I could teach students in a subsequent class, then I'd be more open to integrating AI exercises. But most of them are non-majors, leaving limited time to inculcate the history-specific aspects of a liberal arts education. Plus there are vital learning objectives related to East Asia. 10/11
dknorr.bsky.social
"In this class, using an AI/LLM platform like ChatGPT to produce written work that you submit as your own is not allowed." etc.

I'm designing assignments to discourage the use of AI tools because I think students need to first interact with the information ecology LLMs are cribbing from. 9/11

Given that, the guidelines' recommendation against "blanket bans" is unproductively vague. "Blanket ban" at what level: course, department, university? For my 100-level History of East Asia class, the syllabus will include what could be called a blanket ban: 8/11
dknorr.bsky.social
And the challenge we face is that for (often) legitimate but short-sighted reasons students are liable to shortcut to having AI summarize the article for them, which undermines efforts to teach them core skills of identifying and evaluating argument, evidence, etc. 7/11
