This change represents a rebirth of one of America's first chemical engineering departments at a time when 6 of our 12 tenure-track faculty are new in the last 2.5 years.

Far more than a cosmetic change, the new name reflects the activities of our alumni, our coursework, undergraduate research scholarships, and academic offerings (our minor in EnvironE [with EES department] & MS degree in Sustainability & the Environment), and the research portfolios of our faculty.

It's website-and-email-signature official! After 110 years as just "Chemical Engineering," we are now the Department of Chemical and Sustainability Engineering at University of Rochester.

ACS publications need to add something useful to the first sentence of the body of their emails. In the summary column, all I ever see is "To improve and transform your experience..." According to my records, they have been improving and transforming for well over a year.

Yup, and the perennial question of how transferrable is PhD training? My answer would be "quite" but it depends on whose hands the training is in. I have met PROFESSORS who say they no "nothing" about ALD because they did their PhD in "[some form of CVD very similar to ALD]"

You're right, I'm not accounting for the PhD premium, nor the fact that a combination of the student and the public paid for the BS education/training as well. On the other hand, the salary reflects only a fraction of the economic activity generated by the employee.
