Interop is easily my favorite standards effort of the modern era. Every year I eagerly await the announcement of focus areas and follow the progress almost too closely.

In an era where we’re fortunate to have some pretty good science fiction on TV (that isn’t just an action movie set in the future), Pantheon really stood out. I wish it were available on physical media, as it’s one I’d like to “own”.

I remember this happening with Flash. When the majority of web devs had the MM/Adobe hammer every job looked like a nail. It got complicated, people keep doing it “because”, and vulnerabilities become untenable.
That along with the rise of an unsuitable platform (phones) were keys to its demise.

Makes even more sense in health care. I wonder if it’s universal?

Yes. For a design system, it provides opportunities to have some of the encapsulation benefits of Web Components without the weight. I can see a future state for some where they split HTML/CSS for many/most elements and WC only when adding functionality that doesn’t exist in the platform.

Very much agree from and adjacent career path (federal -> DoD).

I’ve also seen innovation is frequently not innovation but procrastination, I.e., “we’ll solve this complex problem, with this shiny new innovative solution/process (that works in the commercial world)”

This awesome Sam! Systems Thinking is such a unique skill. Even at UX agencies it’s not always well understood and you always do such a great job explaining tricky concepts.

We ended up with a quaternary because instead of a proper light there, we just tried to add a fourth color … it didn’t go well.
