Our new paper is out: "Avian biodiversity in the urban green spaces of Paris: higher bird species richness in larger parks and park centers". Co-authored with 14 UWindsor students from a Study Abroad field course. In Avian Conservation & Ecology: ace-eco.org/vol20/iss2/a...
Here's our story...

Photograph of a group of University of Windsor students on a Study Abroad field course in Paris, France. We're giving the "thumbs up" next to a Song Meter we used to record birds in urban parks. Superimposed over the photo: the title of our new paper in the journal Avian Conservation and Ecology: "Avian biodiversity in the urban green spaces of Paris: higher bird species richness in larger parks and park centers."

Motus Audio recorders are now set up at Birds Canada headquarters in Port Rowan and at Old Cut Research Station at Longpoint Bird Observatory. Which bird species will we record flying southwards this fall? @birdscanada.bsky.social @ibiouwindsor.bsky.social [📷 N. Emerick & M. Bygrove]

Thanks to friendly Motus collaborators, we've got a new Motus Audio flight call recorder sampling the night skies over Kitchener. Our network of Motus Audio recorders continues to expand across Ontario, through the dedicated work of Madison and Natalie.

Today is my favourite lecture of the year in our Introductory Ecology course: my research lecture. I share results from our laboratory and talk to the students about what it’s like to be an ecologist. @ibiouwindsor.bsky.social

On Canada's National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we raised an Every Child Matters flag, shared a walk across our campus, and heard moving and thoughtful speeches from our colleagues. An important day at University of Windsor.

Love songs and battle cries: vocal duetting behaviour in tropical wrens. Today was my final lecture of the 2025 International Master's of Bioacoustics program. It was a chance to proudly share our collaborative 22-year study of #bioacoustics in Rufous-and-white Wrens. @nicolasmathevon.bsky.social

Today in the International Master's of Bioacoustics program: Prof. Livio Favaro on sound production in birds. Prof. Jakob Christensen-Dalsgaard on hearing in reptiles. And Prof. Michael Greenfield on rhythmic calling in animals. What an education! @nicolasmathevon.bsky.social

It's "Birds and Reptiles Week" in the International Master's of Bioacoustics program. This week we're on campus at Université Jean Monnet Saint-Etienne. Today we had great lectures and workshops from Profs. Nicolas Mathevon, Ole Larsen, and Magnus Wahlberg. @nicolasmathevon.bsky.social

Our week of field-based learning has finished with a beautiful sunset, a campfire lecture, and a starry night. And a shockingly hard acoustic quiz. Can you differentiate a screaming deer, a creaking door, and a shrieking Nazgul? Next week: bird & reptile week on campus. @nicolasmathevon.bsky.social

Day 4 at La Maison de L'Eau for the International Master's of Bioacoustics program. An interesting tinkerbird lecture by
Alex Kirschel. Studies of sound recording and filtering with Jérémy Rouch. And the beginning of semester-long independent projects. @nicolasmathevon.bsky.social
