Your primary care doctor is probably not going to take the time to go over every item on your blood work with you and explain what it means in as much detail as you like. ChatGPT will.

As I've thought about it, what I've come to is that it doesn't really matter to me whether it fits this or that arbitrary definition. I'm more interested in specific cases of what it can and can't do (yet.) It can def do a lot of things which we previously would have thought required intelligence.

Intelligence is poorly and inconsistently defined just as far as humans go. You could come up with definitions that AI could never meet, that it might well meet eventually, and that it is already meeting -- and people have.

I feel like it's a bit of comparing apples and oranges situation. In fact, AI is already pushing scientific frontiers, or helping to in a big way.

And likewise, I appreciate your sharing your point of view when it comes to AI (among other topics) regularly here. I have a lot of differences with your opinions but it's important to me to hear what thoughtful people I disagree with think. There are echo chamber bubbles on both sides of this.

Just as a data point, I'm a creative/writer/artist who values the creative process tremendously, and I feel much differently about AI than this. I don't see what AI does as theft, any more than not attributing the many thousands of songs I've listened to when I write one myself is theft.
