Someone please tell Pete to check the steering assembly's potentiometer connection.

WHO DO YOU PLAY AS?

It will be interesting to see how much the upcoming Steam Machine will influence the Linux user % on top of Steam Deck.

I guess it will heavily depend on pricing, of course. If the price is right though, I can see adoption really take off.

I usually do straight firewire 800 to 800 via PCI card in on my desktop, but its nice having an alternative if I don't want to tie up my desktop.

Sorry, smb:// not \\smb (windows brain right now).

I store credentials in /etc/samba/credentials so my login credentials aren't in plain text in fstab.

Not too familiar with Cinnamon/Nemo, but if its just a temporary thing I use \\smb: in the address bar and it works fine (I use Gnome/Nautilus). It will prompt for credentials if there are any and thats pretty much that.

For more permanent mounts (like for my NAS), I use the fstab. Set and forget.

I can recommend autokey if you are using X11. I just set a keybind to have it autotype clipboard content and it worked really well for things like remote VMs.

Wayland while great for a vast majority of things, isn't compatible with autokey. There may be other alternatives but I am not aware of any.

Yeah all the xdg-mime command listed above does is add an entry into that file. It should look something like this (ex: entry at bottom of default applications for helloworld)
November 21, 2025 at 7:41 PM
I get the same "gio: The specified location is not supported" message if the entry is missing or removed from ~/.config/mimeapps.list and/or if the desktop file is not present under ~/.local/share/applications .

If both of those requirements are met then I'm not sure what would be the cause.

Command examples:

xdg-mime default helloworld_handler.desktop x-scheme-handler/helloworld

update-desktop-database ~/.local/share/applications

I didn't have a use case, so I just had it call a shell script and echo parameters back to me, but outside of using xdg-mime to set helloworld as the default handler for the helloworld scheme and updating the update-desktop-database command to make it available, it worked without anything additional

Are you using the x-scheme-handler mimetype in your .desktop? If so, don't forget to register it with xdg-mime
