It really should be the case though that the editorial board should require anything stated as fact in an opinion piece to be verifiable. The opinion part should be “here’s what I think this means” rather than “here’s something totally made up that makes me mad”

It would be very funny if there was a “correct takes” score next to every NYT op-ed writer’s name. Like, out of every time they’ve made a prediction that was actually testable and quantifiable, have people like RD and David Brooks ever been correct?

There’s been a few I’ve read recently where I just felt really bad for the author. Their work deserves better.

I went through years of school to become a scientist, making Dr Mary Malone’s motivations and actions much more interesting.

experienced losing my childhood faith, and coming into an atheistic worldview that has made me happier and given me more of a sense of peace — the study of world religions in that time definitely informed how I understood the plotlines of the books.
