Yeah I've definitely seen districts like that from place to place, I'm just curious as to why in Alabama that's like every fucking state legislative district in the entire state lol
February 8, 2026 at 3:15 AM
The "uniquely Alabama problem" is that state leg elections are routinely 20+ points redder than Presidential elections in each district, regardless of political environment.

It's why The Downballot's special election tracker has all the AL specials as like "R+26" and no other state comes close
February 8, 2026 at 3:14 AM
I'm talking about the consistent Republican overperformances in normally scheduled Alabama elections over the past 10 years though, not the Democratic overperformances we're seeing all over this past year.
February 8, 2026 at 3:11 AM
Judging by the massive gap in turnout between presidential and state legislative elections in Alabama, that makes sense. I'm just wondering why it seems to be a uniquely Alabama problem.

I haven't seen any other state's state leg canidates consistently outrun the top of the ticket by 20+ points

Don't forget the bump Trump is gonna get from suing himself for $10B of taxpayer money for... reasons?

(literally had someone the other day try to tell me that would help Trump. Absolute insanity.)

Comparing to Presidential numbers just straight up does not work for Alabama. I don't really know why

bsky.app/profile/dobb...
Alabama is really weird down ballot. The Democrat's performance in that special was actually a 7-point overperformance from the last state House election in that district in 2022.

2022 State House: R+77
2024 President: R+42
2026 State House special: R+70

Alabama is also really, REALLY red downballot for some reason

When did we "literally have a guaranteed way to end ICE and DHS?" What the fuck are you talking about?

This is some "Charlie Brown Had Hoes" shit
February 7, 2026 at 11:55 PM
No matter what Schumer does he cannot make 47 a bigger number than 53
February 7, 2026 at 11:51 PM
Dems are supposed to move heaven and earth to stop Republicans, and then when they actually stop Republicans, it was meaningless because Republicans actually stopped themselves

It's like AM football talk radio caller levels of absurdity lol
February 7, 2026 at 10:43 PM
Which just gets to the heart of the problem with their stance: Dems are the minority party, so any failure by Republicans is due to Republican incompetence, not Dem leadership. Simultaneously, Dems are expected to do everything they can (and more!) to stop Republicans from enacting their agenda.
February 7, 2026 at 10:40 PM
I haven't seen people blaming Dems for her, just using her as a reason to not give any credit to Dems for the SAVE act failing so far.

"Dems didn't stop it. Republicans didn't want to pass it because Anna Paulina Luna is a whack job attention whore and they hate her and her stupid bill"
February 7, 2026 at 10:38 PM
AR-02 is my sleeper pick for "most shocking congressional district upset" for the 2026 midterms.

Keep up the good work, Charles!!
February 7, 2026 at 10:35 PM
But trying to explain any of the actual concrete things Dems have done to stop Republicans' agenda just gets you nowhere

These people deny reality so hard they think Dems funded ICE and personally ripped everyone's healthcare away
February 7, 2026 at 10:31 PM
I swear like half of these doomers talk about the SAVE act like it's been signed into law already. I've seen people pre-blaming Democrats for its passing when Senate Republicans fully refuse to put it up for a vote, and the House didn't want to attach it to the government funding bill lol
February 7, 2026 at 10:29 PM
The people who need to hear those explanations of why Dems can't magically solve every problem right now are the same people who will refuse to listen to those explanations and just scream their heads off about how the Dems need to "Do Something!!"
February 7, 2026 at 10:24 PM
Dems did this, but people just screeched at them for not instantly abolishing ICE and putting Kristi Noem in jail.

See Patty Murray's post where she said "we'll need a majority to enact the real accountability we need" and people fucking lit her up for it like "DO IT NOW! WHAT'S STOPPING YOU??"
February 7, 2026 at 10:23 PM
White swing voters when they're doing well economically: "I guess it's nice that Democrats care about trans people and immigrants"

White swing voters when they're doing poorly economically: "Why do they care so much about the trans people and immigrants? They should care about ME! 🤬"
February 7, 2026 at 10:15 PM
Lol. "Maybe the Dems should apologize for something the Republicans did!"

Stop being a useful idiot for Putin and Trump and shut up.
February 7, 2026 at 10:09 PM
And that he also pays $226 in taxes on every year despite the fact that it's now worth $1.4M
February 7, 2026 at 9:03 PM
"We should refuse to solve the biggest problem facing the Bay Area right now because someone might make money off of it"

They want to stick it to rich people even if they suffer for it. How very MAGA of them.

(Also "this is MY town, nobody else should move here" is a very anti-Communist sentiment)
February 7, 2026 at 9:01 PM
You say this when the GOP are staring down the barrel of a midterm loss so large that a record number of sitting congresspeople have already retired (and we're still nine months out from midterms!)

The time for Dems to "protect their legacy" or whatever comes when they get the majority.
February 7, 2026 at 6:44 PM
Their nonsense is reaching "Charlie Brown Had Hoes" levels of baselessness.

I think they're just mad that liberals at large have called the Uncommitted movement on their bluff, are partly blaming them for Trump taking power, and leaving them in the dust because they never actually vote Dem.
