Retired, easing on into the sunset…
Hope for the future? Ominous cloud over the pond with a hint of the rainbow.
The things you see when you're just out taking walk...

Looking out my backdoor. It's down a couple of feet from last night thank goodness.

Like a string of diamonds the afternoon sun glistening off the razor wire around the prison. On my walk this afternoon.

Had to share the pond with a heron on my walk this afternoon. He squawked his displeasure at having his afternoon meditation disturbed as he left.

The spiders still trying to scare us this morning.

Moth or butterfly?
Caught it flitting from weed to weed in the backyard. Havent seen one with spots like that before. Hopefully it'll be successful and we'll see more in the future.

Looks like the pollinators did their job. Time to make some seeds!
September 13, 2025 at 5:12 PM
It's ready: calling all pollinators. A lot of bee activity in this corner of my yard. Been waiting all summer for this.

Mother Nature is redecorating again, moving the furniture around. This is the gnarly branch from our oak tree down by the river. Luckily it came off on the river side not the backyard like last time.
Lots of firewood...

Found this guy casually strolling through my yard. I told him where all the tasty bugs hang out but he insisted on doing it his way. Bugs!

BlackBerries in a week or so. If they last long. A lotta wildlife in these parts.

I call this my Mother Plant (lemon jade). I've managed to start 5 new plants from it over the past several years. Very hardy and tolerant. Its survived and thrived despite my efforts. It's within days of a nice pastel bluish/purple busting out. The bees and hummingbirds are waiting.
August 17, 2025 at 4:46 PM
New blooms, sprucing up the front porch. A nice greeting when I returned home today.
June 20, 2025 at 10:05 PM
Its all in the detail. One of my lavender plants is blossoming with flowers so tiny... Looking for just the right pollinator

Sharing the afternoon sunshine with this little guy. Saw his big brother in the side yard earlier but he was in a hurry, couldn't stop for a glamor shot.
May 20, 2025 at 9:48 PM
This goldfinch wants to know why the hummingbirds hang out here. Also wants to know where his dinner is...
May 7, 2025 at 12:24 AM
The Sage Brush Nectar Bar is open for business. The hummingbirds have been taking advantage.

Not sure what it's called but it sure is making the backyard look classy.
Spring - time for Ma Nature to show off
April 21, 2025 at 10:07 PM
Hey!
You with the phone in your face-
This rhodie wants Attention!
It gets this beautiful only once a year and you better notice her efforts.
April 15, 2025 at 8:53 PM
Look who was enjoying the Spring sunshine in the backyard.
Didn't get his name before he slithered away.
April 11, 2025 at 9:48 PM
Calling all pollinators!
They're so WHITE it hurts to look at them.

Love me some sunshine...
April 5, 2025 at 10:04 PM
A little hard to see 'cause this bumblebee is hard at work with his head stuck in an early flower.
The world goes on despite the foolishness of man.
February 28, 2025 at 11:46 PM
Look what I found down by the river bank. Apparently rumors of Spring are NOT greatly exaggerated.
Lets hear for sunshine!

I can find essential and unusual facts for my arts journalism in the dusty old tomes – information not readily available on Google. And, as I did as a child, I lose myself in a world of books ...

Dusting of snow topped the hills around the valley this am.
Saw a bald eagle steal breakfast from a seagull on our pond walk. The seagull was pissed and chased him halfway over the prison before deciding an easier meal could be had back at the pond. Nature’s drama.
