This is my premium ginger loaf last spring before he fell ill with a dental infection and renal disease. I lost him less than a month ago on Christmas.

This is pretty representative of what’s going on in Santa Clara County right now. All the higher elevations are getting flooded and the lower elevations are just getting an occasional shower. Of course we also get the runoff later. San Jose is in the rain shadow of surrounding hills.

Frog lake campsite in spring, Henry Coe State Park, best accessed via the main entrance east of Morgan Hill. A footpath arcs across a mostly flat grassy knoll-top, in an airy forest of widely-spaced blue oaks. Privy-structure at the right, picnic table at left. The trail continues out of sight over the horizon of the knoll to reach the pond which is populated by bluegill ranging up to about 7 inches in size and various amphibians. Possibly the occasional turtle.

A black walnut tree shines bright yellow in fall under a clear blue sky and amidst its army-green live oak neighbors. This is the meadow near the main parking lot at Cañada Del Oro open space preserve in Santa Clara county. The meadow is light green with the first sprouts of grass from the earliest rains of the fall rainy season. A Sycamore flanking the walnut tree to the left has a mixture of paler yellow, brown, and green on it. It’s fall leaves.

Here’s a red one I found in the wild at Torrey Pines State reserve near San Diego. I think this is a Mimulus but a different species than the orange ones.

Me too! But this was on Mummy Mountain, which is a hill 10s of miles south of Mount Diablo, but still in the Diablo range.
A photo similar to the one in the OP. A pair of sticky monkey flowers photographed in the Diablo range in California in May. These guys are all over the place and have a really long blooming period. A several cultivars are available for gardening and different species in the same group in different regions of California have different colors ranging from a pale cream to a scarlet or crimson color. Some cult of ours, even have by colored blooms, such as orange edged by white. I have always been told that they are called sticky monkey flowers because the leaves are slightly sticky and someone somewhere imagine the flower looked like a monkey face. I don’t see the resemblance. But in winter when they lose their leaves, they are stick like and they seem to grow anywhere from flatlands to cliff sides. So it’s possible they’re actually named for their winter appearance and their ability to grow in places only a monkey could climb.

A black kitty with gold eyes and shiney fur sprawls on a grey sofa. The angle of the photo makes its tail appear short. Iphone suggests the type of cat is a Bombay or a Manx. Kitty is a mixed breed with many traits suggestive of Bombay ancestry, but without genetic analysis it’s impossible to know.
