I'm passionate about OER and leveling the playing field in higher ed. My OER efforts are primarily in criminal justice.
Usually it isn't the college because they farm out book stores to big companies. Those companies make usual book store margins. It's the big publishers hoarding all the cash...formerly. OER and piracy have nearly destroyed them.

Does he need the best? Finding 12 Americans who wouldn't nullify seems a harder task given public sentiment.

I think as an educator you have to focus on creating high quality opportunities to learn. Students have to meet us half way at least in this era. If they choose to 'cheat' through the process, there isn't much we can do. Focusing on assessment will drive you crazy.

I've spent the better part of the last year thinking about this. The bottom line is that you can't enforce it. You can threaten to use AI detectors, but those are probabilistic and easy to get around if you know how to write prompts. The only real choices I see are blue books or an honor system.

I blame Blackboard. Once they put a tool in an LMS, the name sticks. I'm afraid modules and rubrics are here to stay.
