The one I saw was an account I’ve followed for years who I know is pro-EU. The argument seems to be that anything short of full freedom of movement is pointless and ‘not fair’. It’s a bit childish frankly.

I’ve seen some allegedly pro-EU people pushing this line too. It’s so irritating. As well as being untrue, it ignores the benefits to the UK and British students of Erasmus students coming here too.

One argument I used to make to my students about why it was important to learn history (and historical thinking) is that someone was always going to be trying to tell you things were natural or had always been this way and that you needed to be able to see that as an exercise of power.

Where have I supported racist policies? I literally said I disagreed with the plans for the ECHR. What I was calling out was the nonsense historical comparisons and misuse of the term appeasement.

That still doesn’t constitute appeasement of fascists. I don’t agree with weakening the ECHR, but making ahistorical comparisons and misunderstanding the meaning of the word appeasement doesn’t help make the case against what some in Labour are arguing.

I can’t see what you’ve linked to as I’ve got that person blocked. That’s generally because I’ve found they talk rubbish.

Negotiating a complex and demanding situation is not appeasement. No ground has been conceded in our position on Ukraine.

History doesn’t repeat and the situation now with US is not even remotely close to Germany in the 1930s. Then Germany was not an ally of decades standing, they didn’t have weapons and troops based on our island. The USA is more than Trump but he is the conduit through which we need to negotiate.
