The babies of fruit bats are larger, and possibly 1/3 of their mother's weight.
The little microbats are much smaller and the babies are small, but they are about 25% of the mother's weight. 😺🦇

It’s almost snoozing weather for our insect eating bats. Many bats have started, or will start fall swarming. Fall swarming is a seasonal behavior observed in many species of bats, especially species that hibernate during the winter. It typically occurs in late summer to early fall.

Normally I'd call an image like this "Baby on board", but given the size of this pup, I'm thinking "Excess baggage" might be better.

This is a Grey-headed Flying-fox (Pteropus poliocephalus) mum carrying her pup. They normally will do this until too heavy (which I am guessing is close.

One of our very pregnant Grey Headed Flying Foxes in care.
She unfortunately came in after hitting a brick wall in high winds last week.
Only minor bumps, scrapes and slight head knock.
Luckily no early birth and she has transitioned from ICU to indoor enclosure with other expectant mothers.
