So, if you're going through some shit right now, I hope perhaps this small note can offer the idea that one day the darkness will dissipate, and decades later you might reflect on such things with clarity and gratitude. Pain is often the touchstone of change.

In short my father's death was a very dark beginning to what would eventually become a new dawn. The unimaginable pain and despair of that day would lead me into shadow, but that shadow gradually gave way to a new light I never imagined.

But, that's not where my story ends. Far from it. Within the last 20 years I've been sober for 15 of them, I obtained a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, and a PhD. I've moved overseas. I've been in a healthy relationship for a decade. I've done things I could never have imagined in that time.

I was ripped off for my small inheritance by distant family members. I walked away homeless and with only a $40,000 life insurance check which I quickly blew on drugs and booze. To say it was a dark time would be an understatement. I eventually ended up on the streets.

20 years ago today, my father passed away. By November I would be divorced and by New Year's my mother would be gone as well. I was 29 years old. Somewhere in there I got my jaw broken and was living through straws with a mouth wired shut. Between the divorce and death, I also lost my house & cars.

It's basically just a Wikipedia search engine. Useful for easy background and surface knowledge reference. Aside from that it is useful at making book recommendations and providing lines of code for Linux. I haven't found any other meaningful uses for it.

You do realize that the fascist have doubled down so far that they have to go for it now right? The Republicans have walked so far down the road into open authoritarianism and fascism that if they do not succeed, every one of them goes to prison or worse and so they will push until they get results.
