Here is a clip of Episode 37 of Kīlauea, taken 25 Nov 2025 at 4:48 pm HT. We were about 2.3 miles (3.7 km) away when this was taken, and the sound resembled that of a jet plane at about that distance. Fountain height is roughly 500 ft (152 m). Fountain duration was just over 9 hours.

Episode 32 just finished on Tuesday, 2 Sep 2025. This is a short video taken from the northern rim of the caldera, about 2.3 miles from the erupting vents. We live about 3.8 miles from the vents, so we frequently get to hear the venting and see the glow. Pretty amazing!

Over the years I have worked with Canadians and enjoyed the experience. But right now I want to bend a knee and thank them for the courage they have shown, and the courage they are about to show. Thank you, Canada! We owe you one.

For a change, I am posting a daytime video of Kīlauea. This is Episode 16, and was taken around 3 pm on 1 April 2025, from about 2.8 miles away. Estimated peak fountain height 800 feet above base (with substantial margin of error). Lava temperature about 1150 °C.

I could say that I am ashamed to be an American, but I am not. I am utterly disgusted with Putin's Puppet, and every one of his dishonorable minions.

Here is a short video I took on 19 Feb of episode #10 of the current Kīlauea eruption. This episode only lasted about 13 hours. Telephoto from 2.65 miles (4.26 km).

Psalm 109: 16-17 (New International Version)

For he never thought of doing a kindness,
but hounded to death the poor
and the needy and the brokenhearted.
He loved to pronounce a curse—
may it come back on him.
He found no pleasure in blessing—
may it be far from him.

Last night Mary and I went over to see Pele in all her finery. Two fountains, and still erupting this morning. Awesome.

Kīlauea is erupting again, after a pause of a few days. For the live stream, see:

This was Pele's xmas present to us. Plenty of spectacular views. No damage. Traffic in the Park was a bit heavy, but I certainly won't blame Pele for that.

We recently visited Venice. On the island of Murano, which is famous for its glass art, we bought a very cute glass elephant. Today it made its way to our dining room table here in Volcano, Hawaii.

No politics, just another picture from Krka National Park in Croatia. Lovely waterfalls.

I just jumped into the BlueSky world, based on a few recommendations. Here is a picture of Venice from our recent Europe trip.
