Garbage fees are covered by landlords or homeowners for <5 unit buildings - raising it for the 2-4 flats would have little effect on renters. If you’re in a 5+ unit building, you’re paying for full cost of service. The city’s garbage fee rewards SFHs and mom-and-pop landlords at renters’s expense

Raising the garbage fee is one of my city pet peeves as someone who owns a home now. Garbage service is suuuuper cheap compared to every other bill. It could be converted to a fee-per-can with free recycling, a senior freeze, and income-based bill relief to raise more revenue and still be cheap.

This came to a head years back when grain-free boutique dog food was found to cause dilated cardiomyopathy and that feeding your dog a corporate brand like Purina was healthier. Boutique pet stores continue to sell the grain-free stuff and not the brands that have the resources to do feeding trials
