I don't mean to be that guy, because I'm not particularly wise. I'm pretty young at 25, and even I've fallen for this, but I think a lotta this stems from the fact that people *want* and *like* easy, exciting answers, when often time there just isn't any answer like that.

I'm 100% serious. Sorry if I was being too patronizing, its just how I joke sometimes, but unless something is done about them, when a D becomes president, SCOTUS will suddenly "Well actually" a lot of those ideas to restrict them. We need court reform badly to make this never happen again.

I'm pretty sure its A not B. All the people who're voting for this are either retiring soon or their elections are at least 2 years away and they probably figure that's enough time for the base to forget by then.

I don't even think it's cause he's got "rich guy brain" I think he saw Republicans win in '24 after screaming anti-trans screeds and naively thought this would attract "independent" or "swing" voters and has no compunctions about throwing trans people under the bus.

I'm just a random American but it feels like in the US and UK, both "left" parties got they ass whooped bad by a "right" party for a good while then took the lesson from this as "the country is inherently right wing and therefore we must shift to suit and not move too left lest face electoral doom"

Note this is not to excuse them. There was a choice, Trump or exile to the political wilderness for years & possibly political extinction. And they chose Trump. Whatever is coming their way the fuckers deserve it.

I agree with everything you said here, but I just gotta say that the GOP didn't give him the reins. He took it forcefully. And he still has it because the base will eat them alive if they tell him to go fuck himself. Even Fox News isn't in control fully, as seen by the reaction to the 2020 AZ call.

It's obvious to anyone with half a brain and I don't understand why people like Yglesias, Klein, and others don't understand this. Abortion was a non-issue to anyone but Catholics until the GOP made it a major plank of their party. You can do things as a party and a politician to move public opinion

What you posted looks like what someone who saw that Parker said Kamala sucks, and assumes she didn't vote for her and is trying to lecture Parker about her "making perfect be the enemy of good" when Parker did, in fact, vote for her even tho she thought Harris sucked.

Things would have to change DRASTICALLY for the Dems to do this. The one thing both parties agree on is that the US and it's military should almost never pay a price for the crimes it commits. No one is seeing the Hague. It sucks but this will be forgotten by all but the most tapped in.

Which is bullshit, Kirk was a lying, vicious, slanderous bigot. A far right provocateur of the worst kind. I'm not a fan of Ezra. But he is right that political violence is bad for a culture, and it's very clearly ramping up. I'm just not going to entertain both sidesing this issue.

That said, almost all the violence is coming from the right and/or those with politically incomprehensible ideologies.
