People act like the "best we can do" is democratic socialism but that's blinkered thinking. 200 years ago the "best we could do" for transportation was a horse or a boat, and a lot of societies took for granted that chattel slavery was the "best we could do".

You are correct that our problems are caused by the extremeness of the inequality but such extremeness is inherent to any class-based society, so getting rid of class is the only way to stop it
