“So I’m not saying I’m worried,” Adam starts, preparing as the next wave approaches, “but do we have a plan here?”

It topples over, hitting the next shelf and knocking it over, hitting the next shelf and cascading on from there—trapping about five of our attackers who happen to be standing between them, but there are still plenty more.

I look over the rows of shelves to the entrance and count more than a dozen already inside, more still entering through the front door. With so many opponents, running may be our only option.
Seeing an opportunity, I ram my shoulder into the wooden shelf at my side.

While I turn to my left to block an axe swung by the second skeleton, Onas rushes past to take down the third on my right.

“Isiwepane!” Onas shouts, pelting our enemies with jars and other items that go flying from the shelf behind him.
On my right I hear Yuta and Adam clashing with their own.

I’m not sure the kid even realizes he’s in danger, and the rest of the family seems frozen, except for Jact Sr. and Cameron carefully trying to inch closer. I cut a wide arc around them, wading into the water farther down the shore. Sona is growling at my side without even calling for her.

I grab my sword and leap out of the wagon, ready for a fight. I spot the source of the scream—Marna—and the reason for it: a monster staring down Jact Jr.

It looks and sounds almost cat-like, hissing threateningly at the young halfling - but has scales instead of fur and clearly lives in the water.
