The basis of the appeal has to be legal, as in some aspect of law was ignored, or the process followed was not correct, or some such. It can’t just “I don’t like this because …”

I’ve been involved in quite a few JRs over the years. The process is to take a JR you have to have participated in the planning process, and you then “seek leave” to take a JR. There is a hearing on this in the High Court, where it is decided whether the basis of your JR has enough legal merit.

In my college days a good friend bought it daily “for the crossword”. Thankfully he’s ended up very far from being Tory.

Killing journalists, murdering Venezuelans in boats, pardoning insurgents, is there now no rule of law in the USA?

Thanks Tim. My experience is all in the planning/ environmental area. I think the proposed changes are mostly targeting this kind of JR. I wasn’t aware that there are lots of asylum type JRs.

I’m pretty sure this is not the case. I’m involved in a couple of organisations who have taken successful JRs. The work involved is huge. No serious lawyers involved in this kind of work will do it for nothing. They have to be paid up front, and for good reason.

The current Big Ian (Henderson) plays in the second row for Ulster and Ireland. There was a time when there was a clatter if Ians playing at outhalf in Ireland: Madigan, Keatley, McKinley, Humphreys.

In Northern Ireland they have something called potato apple. Delicious. Haven’t had it for years. It’s a sort of apple turnover made with potato bread.

When I moved to Buenos Aires in 1992, the first thing I saw leaving the airport was a massive billboard with “Las Malvinas son Argentinas”
