Lots of new friends migrating over lately, so it's time for a reintroduction. Normally, people do these for their books, but I can do it for book services, right? www.dominishbooks.com

My current two (Lonely Castles and Servant of the Empire) are going very well so far.

Another month, another TBR, and for some reason I seem to be mostly reading sequels in October. Check out my plan here:

What are you planning to read?

Tides of Torment is out in November, and it's a belter. If you haven't read the Sea of Souls Saga, now's the time to check it out and see why I recommend this trilogy so highly.

I'd be interested in the results, especially as you're more 🚀 than 🐲

I'm nearly finished, which means soon I'll have some tough decisions to make! Check out my highlights of fantasy from the 2010s here:

What surprises you here, and what's missing from your own highlights list? Is this the best decade of fantasy?

It's time for part three of my quest to find my favourite decade of fantasy - today I'm looking at books published in the 2000s! What are your highlights, and how does this decade fare against the 80s and the 90s for you?

Hey everyone! It's time for my (slightly delayed) August reading wrap-up. Check out the books I read, and my thoughts on them, here:

How did your reading go? Did you find any new favourites?
dominishbooks.bsky.social
That's no surprise at all, coming from you!

This one crept up on me a bit, but it's TBR time! What are you planning to read in September? I have some fantasy, scifi, and (oddly for me) historical fiction lined up. Check it out here:

Mine are of different sizes, but the same artstyle. Judging by the differences there, I'd say I have the same copy (but more battered) of Dawnthief, but then Noonshade and Nightchild are the taller paperbacks.

I'm back in my quest to figure out my favourite decade for fantasy books. This time, I'm taking a look at books published in the 1990s. Check out my highlights here:

What are your favourites, and were there any surprises in the top five I picked out?

Time to revisit the Gifts of the Auldtree...

Yeah, I pulled my data from GR initially, but a lot of them didn't have pub dates pulling through. I know I've read more as well, but I haven't logged them as they were so long ago.

I read the omnibus The Deed of Paksenarrion as one book, so I literally just ploughed through all 1200 pages. I really enjoyed it and have Oath of Fealty on my shelves waiting for the right time for me to get to it and continue in that series. I'm thinking it's going on my 2026 reading plan.

Never read any Bujold, but I think I might have had a random book 2 from the old book club somewhere, same with Mickey Zucker Reichert. They always gave book 2 of a series when they had a freebie, so they could make you go buy book 1 from them. I never did 😅

I think maybe the same for my mate. Gemmell and Feist were my formative fantasies, although I guess I have to include Simon R Green in that as well because of Blue Moon Rising (I did also enjoy Down Among the Dead Men and Blood and Honor from the same world though).

I had a very beaten second-hand copy of A Time of War I think it was, but I don't think it was the start of the Deverry Cycle, and that might be part of the reason I didn't gel with it. Weis & Hickman I'm planning to revisit, and outside of what I mention in this video, I've done some Eddings too.

I never tried Thomas Covenant, I didn't think I'd get on with them - my best mate loves them and kept recommending them to me, even though he knows my taste in books better than almost anyone! And the movies... yeah, we're quite possibly in agreement! We don't get fantasy flicks like that now...

What is the best decade for fantasy books? To answer the question (for me), I'm taking a look at some of my favourites from each decade, starting here with the 1980s:
youtu.be/HV6_oimn5YU
What are your favourite books and series published in the 80s?

Dragon Spirits? Completed it, mate!
My pre-order has arrived, and the set is now complete. Thanks @llmacrae.bsky.social for the grand adventure! 🥂

Really nice interior as well, with good artwork for the extras you get at the start and end of the book. I was going to include some views of that, but it always looks a bit odd unless I can get digital copies to insert into the video...

It's review day today and I'm taking a spoiler-free look at Dragon Thief by Blake & Raven Penn. Check out my thoughts here:
youtu.be/UeZqkc938E0
What did you think of Dragon Thief, or are you interested in picking it up?
dominishbooks.bsky.social
I've got a pre-order too. Can't remember the anticipated release date though. I'll have to reorganise my shelves again...

It's a wrap! Check out my thoughts on the books I read in July here:
