Fully agree. “Variable geometry” was much mocked in the insular, exceptionalist British press but was very much a thing from Delors onward. Fascinating that Carney revisited the concept in Davos in the context of global geopolitics

Ministerial removal in the UK does largely depend on convention (which can be flouted) and shame (of which some apparently have none). Things got pretty bad here under Johnson but I wonder quite how much worse they might have got in a situation analogous to the US now. Food for thought

As I recall they and they other big professional services firms massively cut back on graduate hiring after the dot com crash and then were bitten when things picked up. They‘ve lived with the consequences of not training junior people and having to overpay for good mid career & senior people before

She’s the very definition of a holier-than-thou Twitter-brained idiot. The science is very clear that positive male role models in childcare and eduction is super important esp. for children that otherwise mightn’t have one. Sexist nonsense masquerading as pious moralising. And utterly wrong to boot
