(1). The Democrats voting to end the shutdown are not doing that for money, or power, or glory. The shutdown is hurting the poor and the sick. Republicans have the luxury of caring nothing for them, so had no incentive to meet the demands to restore funding for the Affordable Care Act.

Ever since SCOTUS ruled that, basically, no criminal laws apply to Trump (as long as he does it in the Oval Office and claims he's acting as President), it has been clear to me that SCOTUS supports our having a tyrannical President, and the Founders be damned.

(1) The world is such a weird place. Per a recent poll, Americans are much less worried about the end of American Democracy than they were in 2022. Back then I felt very confident that we had saved democracy by voting Trump out of office.
