I fear the idea that the nobley motivated US (and Britain before it) has always been a propaganda smokescreen for rapacious capitalist expansion that at their peaks created wealth enormous enough to appear magnanimous even while any such magnanimity was a tool to increase global wealth and power.

Nice piece. But the opening scenario is less convincing when you realize that electronic payments don't require crypto. Most of us make lots of automated payments using good old electronic ledgers in credit cards and banks. We all know we can't let our account ledgers run out of cash (or credit.)
