And honestly, if someone tore up my marriage certificate, it would evoke a visceral and possibly violent reaction from me. Which is likely what they'd be hoping for, but my husband is gone. I hope on to every piece of him I have left, including his signature on our certificate.

I've heard no mention of them accepting a marriage license. They want a passport (which I don't have) or birth certificate and my name on my birth certificate (maiden name) died not match my license (married name), so that won't count either.
