His Bernie Gunter novels are great particularly the earlier ones. His historical stuff tended to be his best but he dabbled in a lot of genres including some sci-fi. Avoid his Scott Manson football/thrillers, they are awful but just not laugh out loud awful like Steve Bruce’s ones.

I would recommend Philip Kerr’s ‘Hitlers Peace’ as another alternate history WWII novel. His Bernie Gunther series set before, during and after the war are for me the closest anyone has come to emulating Chandler’s Marlowe.

He’s run out of ideas and it’s only 3 films in, god knows what he going to regurgitate up for the concluding 2 films in 2029 & 2031!

Think someone was showing off there. I seriously doubt that really is their favourite film but it sounds good especially when trying to impress a film journalist as Scorsese’s admiration for the film is no secret. I have seen it and it is a good film.

Just got first pair of glasses for reading at age 54. Everything’s gone a bit Salvador Dali. I can read the book but it’s changed shape and now seems to be some form of rhombus. I haven’t dared walking more than a few feet wearing them.

This may be the worst Fantastic 4 movie yet. It is Green Lantern bad. Why do these films think skyscraper sized villains work. SCALE!!!!

Football hooligans? I take it you are unaware of Jimmy Saville? Fair enough as you didn’t grow up in 70’s/80’s UK. This was a really bold move and intrigues me for the next instalment.
