And I understand that this movie was an homage to the 60s TV show, and looked more like a comic book come to life than any comic movie up to that date, but that wasn't a good thing to my mind then, and on rewatch, doesn't hold up now.

...The casting of Val Kilmer was actually great. He seemed like he was playing a version of Batman from another movie. Nicole Kidman was more dialled in to the camp, and Jim Carrey looked like he was having a ball. Tommy Lee Jones looked the part as Two Face but he was essentially playing the Joker.

... everything about Batman Forever seemed... Off. It felt like Warners were course correcting after what they saw as a failure in Batman Returns. Parents complaining about the movies becoming too dark led to a day-glow nightmare that seemed to be cobbled together by toy companies and McDonalds...
