There are many advantages. No limit in the length of the post or reply. Can set best answers. Embed videos, images, section titles etc. It's carefully tweaked for voluntary fact checking.

It's based on the Flarum free open source software with additional programmin by me, you can use your X login to join - we just get your user name, avatar and email address and the email is used for notifications, not shared, and we won't look at it either unless we have to, to make the forum work.

It's nothing to worry about. Here I answer someone else with similar worries in our new forum:

I can answer you much more easily in our new forum and there are other voluntary factcheckers there to help too.
KOSA

I think looking back it was a response to "I hate Gen AI art" which seemed to me a comment about the appearance of the art, that's all it was, so I was just picking up on it and saying - is it that it looks bad? Especially as I've been hearing about people who don't like what it looks like.

Or something it's hard to workout sometimes why one tweeted in a particular way. Anyway it wasn't hiding anything it was just a natural question that I asked. I should perhaps have paused and thought more before replying.

I didn't feign ignorance. It's something I'd worked out for myself months ago and had figured out the energy use was negligible. And just wasn't uppermost in my mind and had momentarily forgotten that it's a concern because it isn't for me.

I don't personally see it as an issue with the training data so long as they comply with the laws where they are - it's with the output. That it shouldn't permit output of graphics that closely resemble a living artist without their permission.

This is in process of being clarified legally.

If you ask it to do a graphic in the style of Van Gogh that's obviously okay. Or in the style of a Roman statue.

But if you ask it to do a graphic in the style of a modern artist without permission that is definitely wrong.

I am aware of these issues. I did a lot of research and plan to do a blog post about it at some point. The energy use is far lower than most realize and falling rapidly. Don't ask Grok, it uses way out of date figures about itself.

See my thread here replying to Pam..

Robert, please reconsider using AI generated images. The general consensus is that they shouldn't be used, for issues relating to climate change, stolen artwork, and other things. This will not help scared people, as GenAI is scaring people enough as is. Especially Grok, as is labelled here.

On stealing artist's work - I don't know, this is full of flaws and doesn't look like art. It's just for fun. And it's okay for humans to copy other humans without permission.

I see that as more of an issue if it makes art in the style of someone else without their permission.

I mean to do a blog post about that at some point.
