but then a lot of ppl with accents are proud of them, and view them as part of their identity.

yeah, it's funny how the boston accent is largely a suburban thing lately--even extending up the north shore into new hampshire, and down the full south shore (where i'm from)
i honestly thing it's because so many ppl were priced out of the city, while many whites fled in racist fear in the 70s/80s

i remember when i went away to college and worked hard to lose my accent, i asked my dad why he still talked that way. he said "this is how i talk"
