that i have been able to see the advantages and disadvantages of different compositional methods and apply those things to different problems. Idk if anyone cares about this lol but i really recommend trying to find another angle to view music from as a whole if youre feeling stuck.

But thats also part of whats great about it. You really have to love every idea you have since youre much more limited on what all you can do at the same time and if one idea is bad suddenly the whole thing is ruined. One of the things i love about not having a set composition process is

In my experience using guitar or piano has been the best when i am writing something out of my comfort zone. The ability to rapidly prototype and try things is great. You can get your bad ideas out so much faster in a certain way. Is it more limited in scope than a DAW or full score? Yup.

While you dont HAVE to be able to play a chordal instrument (piano, guitar, vibes, etc) to write music, most of my favorite composers do at least a bit. And i definitely enjoy playing guitar more than piano for whatever reason, so taking it more seriously feels like it has unlocked some new things

Im not quitting saxophone by any means but in the last 6 months the amount of time ive spent playing guitar has dwarfed my saxophone playing. Focusing on a different instrument has really been super fun for me and useful too honestly. As a composer especially i love guitar.
