The internet?

Switched off for a week, so the world can’t see what’s happening.

These blackouts make it easy for the regime to keep going, hidden from view.

Recent reports say that more than 12,000 people have been killed in just a few days, many shot in the head while asking for basic rights.

Public spaces are divided by gender, and minorities still face discrimination.

And you can't even walk your dog out because they are 'impure'.

It sounds unbelievable, but this is the reality.

The media and internet are tightly controlled, alcohol, music, and even dancing are banned.

Political opposition?

Doesn’t exist.

If you speak out, you’re accused of 'enmity against God', and that can mean the death penalty.

LGBTQ+ rights?

Forget about it.

Same-sex relationships can get you executed.

What does life under this regime actually look like?

The rich Persian culture you might have heard about has been silenced for decades (47 years).

Their basic freedoms have been erased.

This doesn’t mean the tragedies in Ukraine, Gaza, Syria, Srebrenica, or the Yazidi genocide matter any less; those are ongoing wounds.

But it does show just how extreme and brutal the crackdown by the Islamic Republic has become.

Hope Italy choose the right side of history this time, as this moment presents an opportunity to reaffirm Italy’s commitment to Europe.

However, PM Meloni faces constraints due to the US's significant influence, making it unrealistic for her to publicly oppose US interests.
