I do robots now. I co-chair the committee that runs the two FRC regional events in Duluth MN. I also head a group that works to make the FRC robotics teams in NE Minnesota more sustainable and competitive. Energy policy, EVs also. Slava Ukraini!
The tesla charger network sucks. There is exactly one 1000-volt tesla location where I could charge my Taycan at full speed. It's outdated tech.

This is the first pass. I expect the revised numbers next month will shrink that by at least 60,000 jobs.

It is a global warming safe haven!

-3 is the predicted high for day up here in Duluth.

Ryobi One is the ecosystem I switched to. I wouldn't suggest them for any kind of commercial use but for the sort of medium duty work I do they're cheap and durable enough which is perfect. They have just about everything I need tool wise too. I wish they had a rivet tool though.

Once you buy into a tool ecosystem, you kind of have to stick with it. The problem with those older Dewalt XRP tools is that they have DC motors which are significantly less powerful and more prone to failure than modern brushless AC motors.

The sweet spot is more like 250 to 275 miles of range and 300 kW charging.

It's one of those features where you spend a lifetime saying, "What kind of wimp needs that." Only to get it in a car and you suddenly change that to "How did I ever live without this?"
December 11, 2025 at 4:15 PM
Honestly there's only so much you can do. Heat tape in the gutter and downspout will help.

At least it's not Fraktur.
December 10, 2025 at 2:23 AM
My EV recommends never using 120 volt charging in those temps. It will actually lose charge because it's spending more energy warming the battery than a 1.4 kW charger can provide.

Meanwhile, FOUR YEARS AGO at Boston Dynamics. But hey, I guess tesla is only 10 years behind the market leaders.

10.5 EEEE here. I know your pain. I never had a pair of shoes that actually fit until I was forty.

What I found most interesting about that training was that you don't need a lot of water. The goal isn't to stop the thermal runaway it's to prevent it from spreading, which means keeping adjacent battery modules/cells cool.
December 6, 2025 at 2:28 AM
The model specific guides, which do cover disabling the high voltage systems do exist. The First responder training I went to taught the best way to keep the battery from igniting was to place a 4" fog nozzle under the car and just maintaining a constant wetting of the battery underside.

He should have gone with the Taycan Cross Turismo. Pretty much everything he complains about with the Lucid just works on the Porsche.

The Buick Envision, Lincoln Nautilus, and Volvo S90 are all built in China.
December 5, 2025 at 12:55 AM
You see Chinese cars all over the US. They're just sold with American branding so unless you look at the build sticker you may never realize the car was made in China.

I shall offer a toast to the bollard that gave its last full measure of devotion.

When did Minnesota become a two party consent state?
December 2, 2025 at 4:09 AM
I care about charging speed. I've got a J3400 adapter so I can use one of the slow ass tesla not very high speed chargers if it's an emergency.

CCS1 should be the standard.
