the irony is that what the right offers is a kind of kabuki masculinity that signals gender anxiety and immaturity more than anything.

Wish I had advice beyond "just keep beating your head against the wall until someone finally listens", but that's all that I ever managed to figure out as a solution

Policy studies where the results are not what people "want" have been the hardest ones to publish.

The worst drama was a study where public health folks (including in my own department) were strongly in opposing camps.

Best of luck!

Is there a specific reason you want an estimate or test of the shape beyond just graphing it?

Love Bayesian inference. My prior just happens to be whatever gives me the same answer as the frequentist method I used.

This is my most "lazy quant methodologist" take that I may actually stand by...

The epi in me will always be Fisherian. Trialist I often am, will settle for Neyman.

Ever since the recent article, I keep learning things about this man against my will

One of my first independent collabs, I was asked to "fix" a study that was so flawed that the IRB flagged it as an ethical issue (vulnerable pop). Sat down with the research group to have the PI walk in rant "it's people like YOU keeping us from doing important research." Last time I spoke to them.

"What do you mean we need more than 20 patients?!? We've published with 20 patients before!"

It's the end of "The Doors of the Sea" by DBH for me. Final paragraph makes me cry every time I read it, and remains one of the great sustainers of my faith.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry,
Poor banished children of Eve;
To thee do we send up our sighs,
Mourning and weeping in this vale of tears

He worked his ass off his whole life. Provided for his family, enabled my dad to go to college. The American Dream was achieved over generations because of his determination. And these people can't even acknowledge people like him existed.

I loved that man. He'd let me sit on the porch with him because I was the only one who'd shut up and not make him talk. And then after a while he'd start to explain details about every tree in his yard until he felt up to going back inside.

Yeah. My grandfather who used to show me his collection of every National Geographic ever printed, and would get so overwhelmed in family social situations he would go sit on the porch in utter silence for an hour at a time... Definitely neurotypical.

RFK Jr: I've never seen a case of full-blown autism in a 70-year-old man. You're only seeing it in the kids. It's an epidemic.

Struggle to decide which is worse some days. That or someone drawing the most batshit crazy DAG you've ever seen and then treating it like it's Capt America's shield warding off any criticism to their causal claim
