I haven't even made it to the end of the first essay in this book but I've already found myself nodding in recognition, completely in awe of James Baldwin, and realizing how much what Baldwin writes speaks to where we are right now as a nation.

Look, Ryan Coogler is a genius and SINNERS is incredible film-making. That is fact, no debate. Ruth E. Carter is a genius and her work is impeccable, no one disputes this. If you can't recognize the flawless execution of vision in that film, are you identifying with the demons portrayed in it?
