With the support of the Reconciliation Action Grant, the West Flat Citizens Group Inc. provided a land-based learning experience focused on traditional medicines (sage, cedar, sweetgrass, tobacco) for local youth called the Medicine Teaching Project.

This year, we announced that Canadian Tire Corporation is now supporting The Blanket Fund, building on its partnership with the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund.  Since 2022, The Blanket Fund has redirected all Hudson’s Bay Point Blanket proceeds back to Indigenous projects and communities.

Magoshe Giizhigad marks the Anishinaabe winter solstice period. It is traditionally a feast day around winter solstice time, which has evolved to include Christmas and gift-giving celebrations.

"For Secret Path week- the students were introduced to the songs from the Secret Path and learned about the history of Gord and Chanie by the "Legacy Keepers". The Legacy Keepers also designed the display case."

On October 22, 1966, Chanie Wenjack, a 12-year-old Anishinaabe boy, died after escaping the Cecilia Jeffrey Residential School in Kenora, Ontario. He tried to walk over 600 kilometres to his home community in Ogoki Post.
