It's very, very difficult to make money on 10% gross margins. All the other stuff related to running a business costs real money and with margins that low there just isn't much to go around.

If I buy a widget for $1 and sell it for $1.10 then my gross margin is 10%, but that doesn't take any other expense into account. It's just cost of goods sold and sale price. As a business, you only have that 10% to cover all other costs - people, buildings, insurance, IT, everything.

Imho that's a symptom - there's no cultural cohesion on the left that overrides shorter term disagreements, so it's very easy to disrupt / distract meaningful segments of the coalition.

Right. The current conservative movement didn't come from nowhere, it's been slowly, steadily, methodically built since the mid 70s. You can't create a meaningful alternative over a weekend.
