I think there's an odd effect of the AI bubble--I personally have felt way more inspired and creative recently. It's strange--you'd think that the fact that a computer could create music and art would somehow be discouraging. Instead, I feel an almost spiteful drive to create as much as possible.

Thinking about the concept of psychosomatic ailments this morning. I've had conversations with people in the past where they called people's real expressed sensations and distress 'psychosomatic' with the same dismissiveness as though they were calling it 'fake'. This confused me at the time, (1/?)

What's frustrating about the movie version of Jurassic Park (1993) is that the arguments made by the scientists are just terrible, fallacious appeals to nature. The fact that the film validates them by having a Chernobyl-level confluence of system failures makes the movie feel aesthetically (1/?)

saying that generative AI makes you better at your job is a remarkable admission of incompetence, and should be treated as the reveal of an embarrassing secret

This morning, I'm thinking about the function of ambiguity in semiotics and storytelling. What does it mean for a movie like The Babadook to have a monster that canonically "represents" grief? What can we make of movies with wild, often undirected symbolism like Mulholland Drive? 1/?

@rericreuss.bsky.social crazy to see the creator of my favorite board game on here--my family and I have filled a composition notebook's worth of SI games (and more to come, probably). I was wondering about spirit design, since I'm thinking about homebrewing some soon: (1/2)
