isekai works for this. Like ok cool you're an expert in modern mechanized combat? Well too bad now you have to command a unit of elephants.

obvious author wish fulfillment

people dont wanna pay road tolls because they already pay a lot just to drive their car. Fact is the infrastructural costs of paved roads, interchanges, overpasses, and bridges; suburban sprawl in general; are fucklarge. inefficiency has consequences for the private finances of the masses.

amazing, also a cool anatomy lesson. The larval stage of insects bears a much more obvious resemblance to a crown arthropod's body than other crustaceans.

its one of the most divisive issues in recent history despite being something you'd think is unanimous.

and everyone with even a modicum of authority in the usa happens to be clamoring for a bloodbath.

i would also like to say, respectfully, that a lot of people go into university with the idea that the world will be subservient to them and make few demands of them while the rewards pour in. i at least see many people strangely unsatisfied with being paid 5 times the median individual income.
December 26, 2025 at 5:42 PM
well, i would kinda call this a morale issue if anything.

the idea that you should do a good job just for the sake of doing a good job often just feels stupid in the current environment and doubly so in the moronic tech sector.

its not possible to be the only good apple.
December 26, 2025 at 5:38 PM
none of that ACTUALLY bothers me of course.

im more bothered by the way machines and tools change our minds and our process.

see: those doctors

million examples of this of course, and i could imagine some fairly benign outcomes if it werent for the stupid hype train.

but as it is now? fuck no.
December 26, 2025 at 5:24 PM
i will say that if AI ends up actually improving the process thats more than its done for most people in reality. this is all before 1. the legal or industry consensus on plagiarism has been reached 2. anybody has decided theyre gonna charge creators 7000 dollars per machine per year.

my personal exposure to this was trying to get a friend from the FGC to come do some fights with me but he was out resting because of his pro (amateur?) wrestling injuries

but im using an i5 6500 so im actually nerfed from having to use ddr4.

the real money saver is using an x99 board with server memory

my favorite example is comments/debates about realism in sci fi space battles. like realistic? according to what observations? according to what paradigm? and according to what context?
December 25, 2025 at 5:09 AM
i find it truly interesting yeah. currently im trying combat flight sims and the conversation about realism is very immature, though ironically it might be more mature than the conversation about realism in games as a whole.

"all art needs to look real" into "it was so realistic the audience didnt believe it" into "it doesnt matter if the audience thinks its real" into "it doesnt matter if we lied and said it was real" into "the audience is so preoccupied with authenticity that they have no appreciation for fantasy"
December 25, 2025 at 4:18 AM
makes me think about moviemaking too. i sometimes think about how the audience(and producers) increasingly assume that movie magic can do anything. you almost wonder why bother having a dope ass stunt for instance.

theres even the thought that it shouldnt matter if the audience thinks its real

this is their cave story (if it cost money) (and didnt run on a sega genesis)
