I am an environmental scientist and JSPS fellow working in Matsue, Japan. I investigate the ecology and impacts of climate change on freshwater ecosystems, including lakes, rock-holes and groundwater.

We explored a unique freshwater system that is full of all sorts little invertebrate critters. The communities vary across space and time, variation captured through the use of eDNA techniques.

This work was undertaken during my PhD in @invertebratelab.bsky.social
Environmental DNA reveals temporal and spatial variability of invertebrate communities in arid-lands ephemeral water bodies
Australia’s semi-arid and arid ecosystems are ‘water-poor,’ and likely to become more so with climate change. We investigated the invertebrate communities

During this fellowship I will be investigating the climate vulnerability of the Japanese basket clam (Corbicula japonica) in the coastal lakes: Shinji and Nakaumi (pictured), which are being affected by rising sea levels and increasing salinity.

I was given an amazing send-off by @invertebratelab.bsky.social, who I will miss immensely.

But I'm also very excited for this new opportunity to lead my own research!
