It’s so frustrating when your brain operates on logic but the people who need convincing don’t. Like I want to start screeching frustrating.

Had the “first day of class” AI discussion today. One class seemed to buy it. The other two….welp. It’s going to be a long semester.

Happy to be a pair of eyes after Christmas is over if it would be helpful. Shaping and structure are my superpowers.

Huh. Well. I guess I’ll use the Thanksgiving break to…never mind.

So terribly sorry for your loss. You’ve had a rough year. Thinking of you and your family 💗

We have clouds. Just here. Everywhere else in CT people are posting gorgeous pictures, but noooot here.

I have a picture of the three of us going in to vote in 2016, and a picture of their hands on my ballot bc I wanted them to have it to show they were there when the first woman was elected. Alas.

That day was terrible. G stayed up to watch and was crushed—like something broke. She’s been at protests all this year. C was too little to get it, but agonized over the last two elections, and is starting to look at colleges limited to states where she’ll feel safe going.

You know, I just remembered that last week Grace asked me to read an email she was sending to her (new, 2nd major) advisor. She’s precise about her writing, yet she had started it with Hello, (enter). I’ve never seen her do that before and she was surprised that she had. Maybe it’s in the water.

I called someone out in class last week when (again) they referred to me as “Miss.” not “Miss + Name,” just…Miss. I may be clinging to looking slightly younger than my 50, but friends, if it’s not Dr. or Professor it’s clearly Ma’am at this point.
November 4, 2025 at 8:02 PM
They don’t know your name, or they’re recycling an email and don’t want to change it up to add different names. Usually accompanied by “did I miss anything important?” or “I have a family emergency and won’t be in class all week.”

Half. Maybe a quarter kidding. Watching a kid follow her passion into college is rough, but seeing the second major and minor that offer more practical options is reassuring. A little.

Absolutely on fire.

Yeah. But we’re doing it anyway at our house. A marathon is planned for tonight with a charcuterie dinner and popcorn. Undecided if we’re going for favorites or chronological/start at the beginning.

It already has, significantly, though regaining strength is slow. We spent a lot of time with my nephew this summer 😂. The Dr who first saw the MRI asked him what kind of accident he was in (he wasn’t)—it just happened fast. His age should help him recover better than if he was much older.

He had laminectomy/discectomy/fusion across three discs. It was really bad. But the nerve compression was so bad he was losing feeling in his right hand and leg, and he does lab work for a living, so this was the option. Also he has a verrry busy 2 year old, so that’s been fun.

My brother had major spinal surgery in April and is still in the no bend/stretch phase of recovery, and he and his wife have Covid right now. The wracking cough is…not helping. But hey! You get your own action figure!

Probably why they’re trying to change it to the War Department.
September 19, 2025 at 1:08 AM
Told you. I’ve never had that from a vaccine before.

Whatever works, my friend. Sadly I can’t take whiskey, which would be much more fun (and effective).
September 17, 2025 at 1:00 PM
I got mine on Saturday and one of them packed a wallop on Sunday (and lingered into yesterday, honestly). Take an Advil. I have seven students down with Covid right now (but tragically in class) so not a moment too soon.

We are absolute toast.

I refer to the Fall semester of 2019 as The Dark Time, as a reminder of the same. I accepted too many adjunct sections because at least a few usually get canceled, but…none of them did. So I had 9 sections of developmental comp at 3 schools, a regular freelance job, and a family. Never again.

Everything. Every single thing.

She does, mostly. But the cane and staples have gone way up. On the other hand, she has legit reasons to keep knives and grain alcohol in her room 😂
