This article takes for granted that science should be apolitical, and that truths can be separated from the values of those who seek them out.

I understood that it is a controversial take in philosophy of sc.
The authors seem unaware of the controversy, also IMO their views are not well informed.

Here is one paper that discusses the competing scientific theories of sex, its development, and the point that at the margins that some individuals have no sex and that sex is only a life stage which we may only shoehorn into a sex class pit of convenience.

Yes, unfortunately physical copies of these books are expensive (as academic books often are). But the digital version is free - and very good quality (well typeset, searchable, navigable, etc.).
