Update this is my new webstie because what the hell was I thinking having a W*rdpress? The url remains, however, dracula.church (also I did not wind up using this as my banner but enjoy)
This is the most incredible post to stumble across while high in the middle of the afternoon, crying and listening to Mount Eerie.

I'm probably gonna write more about this for my next newsletter piece but you may wanna get ahead of the game on this one. Strongly advise, in fact.
So my friend Sean (@hauntonaut.bsky.social) also formerly of WYRD_SIGNAL Podcast, has been writing, too! His latest work is some of the most impressive short fiction I've read this year (which he's permitted me to share until he cracks and also gets a Neocities account) dracula.church/unchienandalou

Going from being treated as a peer by academics to having to write an essay about how I'm somehow uniquely competent to staff a ticket booth or answer an email is the most nauseating shift imaginable. Like, fuck this world. This isn't real. A streetcar will hit me and I'll wake up a midwest dentist.

re-uppping my @nplusonemag.com subscription because I just discovered an Amna Akbar piece I missed in new-parent haze.

I think if bands started doing Kurt Weill covers/homages again it would re-manifest the economy

Witnessing loved ones being exposed to instagram slop as a terminally online person is how I imagine Laura Palmer feels when dragging blackout drunk Donna out of the Pink Room in Fire Walk With Me and screaming "NO! Not you, NOT YOU!"

Once book is done I'm never doing another. It's short stories from here on out. I will be a dilettante. I will read for pleasure and dabble at the clarinet. I will get a stable job and focus on making my apartment clean and tasteful. I will drink wine and have reasonable thoughts.

Making *finishing my fucking book* my sole resolution of 2026 - I've made similar resolutions multiple times but this is the first it's actually felt like a plan rather than an aspiration.

I think the reason I find GFM so uniquely annoying is that she's so obviously desperate for people to be mad at her as this radical iconoclast, but since she doesn't actually have anything subversive in her to say, defaults to either c-tier reddit takes or a kind of righteous inverted wokescold act.

It's crazy how the band Rosetta Stone had two separate guys in it called Porl, neither of whom were Porl Thompson of The Cure.

If you enjoy hearing me talk about film, I also used to do a little podcast called WYRD_SIGNAL, and may again at some point who knows?
Update - I'm committing to the bit. In this first entry, I talk about Gakuryū Ishii, M John Harrison and Kathryn Mohr, which you can read here: dracula.church/church_newsl...

Getting in a couple eleventh hour submissions to the *other films by directors where I've seen like one of their films a bunch of times but never branched out any further for some fucking reason* 2025 list and jfc Jonathan Demme was cooking something on this one

If we're doing a personal year in review thing, my highlights include:
- Learning a set in a week and going on a road trip to Manchester with a bunch of people I barely knew so I wouldn't have to be around for a housemate's birthday
- Playing three shows with a band I wrote most of the stuff for
