silly gamemaker thought it could sneak one by me: a function for fast 3D sphere culling was quietly added in beta a few weeks ago, which is by far faster than equivalent solutions implemented manually

It's not the dumbest thing I've ever heard, but I do think in Current Year it should be acceptable to put a little note on the bottom of the steam page that says "if you install this on a spinny drive your experience will be sub-optimal"

old game discs are full of this kind of thing, I have to imagine the benefits of doing it on a spinny hard drive would be blunted because the game isn't actually in control of where the disk's hardware controller actually writes the data though (fragmented sectors etc)

tangentially related: now whenever i see a piece of artwork, even if i know for a fact the person who alleged to have made it is a real artist, i have to stop to zoom in to figure out if it was AI-generated because we live in a world where i do that to everything by default now
