Today's post features commissioned fan art for the book series Galaxy's Edge :)

Happy christmas + new years!

I had grand plans of making a video to show my process of thumbnails -> final but stalled ...aaand didn't post for ages xD I've learned when something is a hurdle, doing the bare minimum consistently is more effective.

Today is my favourite holiday of the year. Happy Halloween everyone :D

The artstyle below was inspired by the work of Oleg Vdovenko. I had no idea painted art could be so visceral/creepy and I find that quite impressive!

Hello! I've got a lot I want to post, but for today I'd like to share a piece I finished yesterday :)

It was a quite a challenge due to the stylised proportions but seeing how happy the client was made it all worth it xD

Happy #PortfolioDay!

Draneria here, I do art commissions :)

My workflow is brief > thumbnails > (repeat as needed!) > final piece, so the client always knows what they are getting.

I also enjoy making free Krita brushes for other artists :D

I've released some free ink brushes for Krita to celebrate Inktober!

Download here:

Below is a demonstration (E.H Shepard study). It was made using the fineliner + slight chromatic aberration filter :)

Last month I made this draft for a physical painting. Not sure when I'll be able to create it, so here's the design for now!

The round mineral is hematite. Fun fact; it's shape is often botryoidal but I chose to depict it as globular in this :)

...sometimes things just don't go right xD

Today I've got some recent portraits that didn't work out on my quest to paint a profile pic I like!

I think this is because I didn't plan well beforehand, so next time I'm going to try using thumbnails :>

I'm only on episode 2 of Arcane, it is awesome! Please no spoilers, I don't actually know how the plot will go :D

Painted in Krita, 3hrs 30m. It's an artstyle study, original reference: imgur.com/a/arcane-4k-...

Finished up an old idea (10 - 15 hours about 2 years ago, then 3 hours today), painted in Krita

By the way, anyone who knows GW1's Kaineng City gets a 🍪 :D It was one of my favourite areas, and the feeling of the piece was inspired by that. #commissionsopen #artistsofbluesky #krita #draneria

Trouble is I can't decide which to go for xD Anyone have a fav?

The lineart was provided by fellow staff Vanille over at the Art Lounge server!

(workflow + brush test) made with Krita.

Took just under 1hr 57m, I have never painted a portrait so fast in my life xD

Thank you to JV.N for his wonderful blender head base brushes!!

Do you ever work waaaaaaaaaay too hard on something for absolutely no reason?

This lotus study was painted for a single page of a PDF assignment during uni. I found it again recently and thought it'd be nice to share :)

🎭 Same character, completely different moods.

I painted this character for a uni project, and later used him as a base for a cinematic villain design.

If nothing else, it's good upgrade from the sad grandpa-energy he had before!

Watercolour flower sketches, just for fun :D Done recently, after touching grass for the first time in 7 years.

Ta-da!

and here is the final piece 🎨 After correcting a few details with the client - it was packaged up, sent off (delivery took 9 days) and happily received. I have to say I enjoyed painting it thoroughly, and being able to work with such amazing people!

I would say this process took about 2 weeks, and the commission in all took just over a month. It was bit nerve-wracking because there is no-undo button! But that's also what made it so satisfying to paint (╯✧▽✧)╯

Once everything was prepared, I started penciling in the composition and the underwash! This was done on an A3 canvas. Unlike with digital, you have to really plan things in advance and paint in the lights first.

It's been a while since I used watercolours, so the first thing I did was some colour tests and illustration practice - especially for the sky gradient! I gave the client updates like this as I went so they'd know how things were progressing.

This was (2/3), and the final chapter will go through the physical edition that was commissioned after ✨ I hope you've enjoyed, have a good day!

...and here is the final piece!
Mushrooms were a theme, so I made sure to base the shrubbery details on real funghi, as seen in the diagram in the post below.

I also snuck a tiny frog into the illustration as a little easter-egg based on the poem's title. (I have no idea if they ever spotted it)
