#WorldLetterWritingDay ✒️

Here's the story of love letters I discovered in the Amgueddfa Cymru collections 💌

Sarah was 20 years old when she received these letters. She fell in love with a butcher, and they kept a public house together 🍻

Absolutely! I personally have no problem with 'baby daddy'!
drangelamuir.bsky.social
100%! And speaking broadly, 'unmarried fathers' isn't always accurate since some of them *were* married, just not to the baby mama! I even titled a conference paper 'did baby daddies matter' (it was about Illegitimate infant mortality).

I have never read anything more relatable in my entire academic career than this.

I'm excited to be speaking at @long18thsem.bsky.social on 30 April at @ihr.bsky.social. It's a dark topic with a lot of modern relevance given the ongoing threat to women's reproductive rights. Join in person or online (it's free)

It's horrible isn't it! I don't think many Unis are safe these days
drangelamuir.bsky.social
It's an externally-funded post doc, so it's not affected by *that*, but the timing isn't ideal. Gotta feel for the academics involved in putting this together given what's going on there.

Always a nice treat when this time of year rolls around! If you're a writer publishing your work and haven't signed up, you're really missing out!

I'm sorry if you've misunderstood. 'Wine' and 'true crime' do kind of give away the fact this is not an academic or engagement event. Fair if you want to express your opinion and leave feedback. I don't have you agree with you.
drangelamuir.bsky.social
This is an event run by a small business not meant to represent the humanities. There's no dishonesty, it's clearly explained on the website. It's OK to not like the concept. People do come to these, and I think it's OK to have a bit of fun with our work and help a small business once in a while
drangelamuir.bsky.social
Not saying you're thick at all, I just disagree with you and I think that's okay. Appreciate the feedback but this is our 8th event and it's never been an issue so I think it's just a misunderstanding, which happens sometimes!
drangelamuir.bsky.social
Think we'll have to agree to disagree about that one. The title 'Wines & Crimes' doesn't exactly scream academia, the link goes to a tasting event listing on a business's website (a wine shop) & I just said 'event', which it is. The description on the website explains it all. I reckon that's enough?
drangelamuir.bsky.social
It's a wine tasting hosted by an independent small business? It costs to run and they can't give away their product for free. It's not like a funder or uni is subsidising it. It's a wine tasting first and foremost which I tell research-based stories at in my spare time. Not sure what this issue is 🤷
drangelamuir.bsky.social
The stories I'll be telling come from the research for my chapter 'Sex Work and Economies of Makeshift in Wales, c. 1750-1830' in Gender in Modern Welsh History. It's academic research repackaged as a wine tasting!
