"Google appears to have blocked AI search results for the query 'does trump show signs of dementia' as well as other questions about his mental acuity, even though it will show AI results for similar searches about other presidents."

What kind of birth control does the Trump administration consider abortion? Well, the contraception the statement refers to was a stockpile of IUDs, birth control pills, and hormonal implants.

I know everyone is consumed with other news, but this is a big fucking deal: The Trump administration says that IUDs and the Pill are actually abortions.

Here's what USAID told the NYT about the $10m in birth control they plan to destroy.

I had to save this post to read it with my morning coffee and my human literacy capacity fully charged. A deeply personal and caring message by @eryk.bsky.social which makes me think and feel things

I would like to amplify this post by 1000x because Reuters f'd up this story to start with -- by falsely reporting that Costco would no longer carry mifepristone, when it never did -- and other news outlets ran with it and far-right legal groups are taking credit for something that didn't happen.
amaditalks.bsky.social
This is not a massive decision or any kind of change. Costco has never carried mifepristone in its pharmacies. An anti-abortion group is taking credit for something that didn't happen, possibly to generate disingenuous left-wing ire against one of the few corporations that hasn't gone MAGA.

Just as AI critics need to acknowledge when AI works, AI boosters need to own the fact that much of AI's value prop is stuff like this. AI is profitable when it serves as an accelerant for exploitation and enshittification, and that's obv relevant to evaluating the net social merit of AI

“The procedures will be reviewed by AI for coverage determinations, although final decisions will be made by people. The companies contracting to do the review process will receive payments when they reduce costs, essentially being incentivized to deny service, critics say.”
Medicare will test using AI to help decide whether patients get coverage. It could delay or deny care, critics warn.
Increasing prior authorizations would “undercut one of the immense benefits of traditional Medicare.”

I’ve just published a new essay, Reading the Cosmic Web, inspired by Mark Neyrinck's Rivers of Galaxies in @aeon.co. It explores how the filamentary structure of the universe is echoed in rivers, mycelium, spiderwebs, and other branching forms of life.
