We always see the red flags, learning which ones to read into and how to step away from it is unfortunately a process a lot of us go through. Usually if something ever feels amiss, the best thing you can do is take a step back. I am so sorry, do you have support you can lean on while you recover?

Yep! I also had to prove to myself that letting go was actually going to make me a better artist, because it's one thing to have a theory that it's the right path and it's another to believe it. A complete change in approach, philosophy and perspective is not a simple thing. It was a process. 😅

I have more detachment from the result. Making bad drawings for me is part of the process, something I embrace as part of the flow of how I work. I barely give them a second glance before diving into the next one, experimental pieces help me build up the confidence for the more intentional works.

Doing work you like starts out accidental, but over time it becomes more common and as you become more skilled it becomes intentional.

To get there you have to find an approach that that lets you relax and enjoy. For me that meant looser, sketchier and messier. Moving quickly from piece to piece.

1. Not attaching your self-worth to your work.
2. Finding pride in that any time you put in makes you a better artist.
3. A willingness to make mistakes, to let it be and move on to your next work.
4. The intention to relax and make a mess.
