I think I can announce it (it's on the website now), but I'm really excited to say that I got the journal cover for the November issue of JCS! The retina is so beautiful, and I'm so happy I get to share that.

A journal cover photo for Journal of Cell Science, Volume 137 (21) Novermber 2024. It is depicting a healthy frog retina labelled using wheat germ agglutinin (magenta), which binds to the photoreceptor outer segments; anti-calbindin antibody (green), which marks cone inner segments and a subset of bipolar cells; and Hoechst 33342 (blue), which stains cell nuclei. It has the Company of Biologists logo on the bottom left.

But then I have to start over completely 🥲

Ah, I didn't realize that. It still tries though. I just have to put a pin in after anyway.

JFC. I am so sorry Bryan. That hurts on so many levels.

Windows 11 updated and now facial recognition no longer works and I cant find our work printer on ethernet. I assume it's something similar, but I'll be damned if I can figure it out. I've been a PC user my entire life, but this is a whole new level of stupid. It's making me want to switch to mac.

And I thought predatory journal emails were bad 🙄😒
drbjcarr.bsky.social
So we just get sent AI spam summaries of our own preprints now? Wtf is BGPT?
A block of text from an email that summarizes my own work in the form of AI, and then provides a link to click.

You dont find yourself, you build yourself 🙌

Like are we the same person because the same thing happened to me as a kid except it was recurring dreams of Anubis and he was always trying to eat me.
drbjcarr.bsky.social
You are a powerhouse! Congratulations!

Missed saying goodbye. Safe travels home!

Ugh, I'm sorry. At the very least frogs are less expensive than mice. They can live much longer though, so losing adults (especially transgenics) sucks.

Luckily for me this year, I did not need to go for a fall grant. I will be trying to submit for spring though.

I just have no idea what will happen to our animals at the moment. The University blanket rejected all requests for research continuation earlier this year and we do tadpole husbandry.

Ugh. Glad I avoided that. I did watch the final lectures on the live stream though.
drbjcarr.bsky.social
I did not. I just went straight from Prague to Helsinki. I needed some recovery time. I was strangely exhausted after RD.
drbjcarr.bsky.social
Wait...are you going to Visionarium? Lol! See you there.
drbjcarr.bsky.social
Round and round we go. Same with U of A right now.

So proud for @brightfocus.bsky.social to be supporting Dr. Carr and her students. Looking forward to witnessing many discoveries from this lab.

That's a wrap! My first RD conference as a PI *and* with two graduate students in attendance. Featuring @dianebovenkamp.bsky.social and generous funding from @brightfocus.bsky.social

The BrightFocus Foundation was invaluable in launching my career, and I could not be more grateful!
