There are little things like that, which kinda break my heart, but arent big deals. Thermal Visor definitely got a big downgrade for switch, and beam shots not lighting up their environment also hurts me.

Its the dichotomy of a fandom subreddit. The people that actually engage in discussion are typically much smaller than the demographic of people that just browse the subreddit for cool pictures, or people that see it on the front page, and upvote hot girls

Frankly, I'd rather just not have either. I do not think there is a way to combine metroidvania and true open world in a way that harmonizes their gameplay loops. They are inherently contradictory, and to try to combine them, you have to forsake the most important parts of one of them.

But the alternative is to not include the lock and key structure at all, at which point you're throwing away the core gameplay of the series. There is a reason why as much as I like Prime 2 and 3, I think they are by far the worst at being Metroid games of the trilogy.

i am... skeptical. In order to maintain the soul of the series, the lock and key structure of the abilities, you would have to wall off huge portions of the map with small access points that you need an ability to traverse. At that point, youre squandering the strength of an open world...

ill be real i have serious doubts that any actual Metroid fans beyond a handful were asking for an open world. and I'm not going on a "no true metroid fan" rant here, I think that EVERY niche genre has uninvested people who dont care about a series asking for dumbass open world shit

I still prefer my Metroid games without much NPC interaction (Echoes is like my limit really), because I do still think their presence butchers the trademark atmosphere Metroid is so good at. But in the case of Prime 4, a game that isn't good at being Metroid in general, I can accept it begrudgingly
